EXTRA CREDIT

1. Which assignment did you ENJOY working on the best? Why?

The assignment that i enjoyed the most was when we had to create are own logo. It was my favorite because i was able to incorporate something that i love into my work.

2. Which assignment did you ENJOY working on the least? Why?

The assignment that was the least enjoyable for me was when we had to do the video reviews. I didn't find some of them enjoyable because the video were very long.

 

3. How did you like using BLACKBOARD? Using blackboard was easy for me since my other classes also use blackboard.

4. What is your opinion of the Discussion Groups in this course? I found the discussion to be quite easy, but i had to keep reminding myself to check them because they were separate from the content modules.

 

5. Did you participate in any of the extra credit projects in previous modules? If so, what was your opinion of them? (mandala, elgin marbles, culture, art critics)

Yes, i found them to be quite interesting, especially the mandala project because i found out the meaning behind the art.

Reflections of AED 200

1. What were you expectations for this course and where they met?

My expectations for this course was to better myself in drawing and to learn styles that i didn't know about. I think that i met my expectations because I've learned the elements and principals of art and much more that i never new before. 

2. Now that you've been through this course, What is art? How would you define it now compared to your intial posting?

I would define art has what you make it, it is very complex and many people have a different way of seeing art. I will now call it a way to express yourself in many ways. 

3. Who was your favorite artist in your original posting and who is your favorite visual artist now? If there is a difference, why do you think so? If you have the same favorite artist, why do you think so?

In my first posting my original favorite artist was Cornelia Baltes, but now i like the artist kate doody that i noticed while doing another project for this class. She had did a art piece called Blue Zig Zag and it had really interested me. 

4. Now that you've completed this course, how do you feel about taking an online course? Is your answer the same as it was in your first posting? How is it the same or different?

Now that i have completed an online course, i honestly don't think that i would do one again. I had to keep reminding myself to check online to see if i had work to do and some times i would forget to do that. I rather just go to the class and experience hands on.  

Module 15 part 2

1. Use the vocabulary you have learned in class to describe this artwork or performance in detail.

Guernica by Pablo Picasso was created by using oil paints, it also lacks color and has many different images within the painting. All of the animals and humans figures that was used int he painting are all in different proportions , it makes the picture look unrealistic. In the picture the elements of lines, shape and form was used throughout this painting to give it it's own personality. In the picture, i can see broken swords and faces that look like they are in pain, so this picture must have a deper meaning to it. 

2. What processes were used to create this work? What social influences might the artist be responding to and why?

I think that a lot of emotion was used in order to create this piece of art. It showed human and animal figures, but their bodies were disproportionate and combined together.  I think that it might have been personal problems that influenced him to create this piece and also the surroundings of were he lived.

3. What is the relationship of this work to the time and society in which it was created? Describe the symbols used to express this relationship.

During the time of this painting their was a war in action. So the painting represented the amount of fear that was coming from everyone. what was used to show this were the wounded man and broken swords that are in the painting. You can tell by the look of the faces in the picture that they are going through pain and is being attacked. 

4. Identify elements in the work that evoke a persuasive or emotional response. Be specific about what those responses are and why.

What stands out emotionally is the expressions of the men faces in the pictures. It shows suffering and a great emotion that fear is present. Something else that stands out is, in the picture their is a mans arm on the floor holding a broken sword. Showing how their has been death.

5. Evaluate what you perceive to be the strengths and weaknesses of the work.  Apply discipline specific vocabulary and concepts when describing your point of view.

I was have to say a strength would be the lack of color, it allows that audience to focus only on the painting and not to be distracted by the colors that could have been used. A weakness would be the use of text in part of the picture, it can catch some people attention and draw away from the art itself.

1. Why did you select the inspiration pieces? 

I choose these self portraits because it reminded me of my picture of myself that i was going to draw. With these self portraits and mine they are all facing to the front. 

2. Why did you select the media to create your self-portrait?

I choose portraits that were painted because they were more interesting to me than others 

3. What challenges did you face in creating your self-portrait and how did you overcome them?

Challenges that i faced while making my self portrait was being able to make the drawing actually look like me. As a drawer i am not good at all when it comes to drawing realistic things, but i overcame it by just doing my best.

i think that this piece of work represent my work because it represents the same frontal image

I used the element of shape/form

Yes, i enjoy drawing even though i am not the best at it.

I think my finial outcome of my work is quite good and that it is better than i expected it to be.

Project 4 reflection

For project 4, i did my slideshow on Asian culture. I was always interested in Asian art and how they use a lot of vibrant colors and amazing detail in their work. I found this project to be easy, because i just picked the artwork that caught my attention more. I mostly focused on Korean, Chinese and Japanese artwork and gave my thoughts on the art piece.

i was interested in all of the videos. They really were to the point and in depth.

For my selection i made a random choice and decided to pick Uncertainty: modernity and art and also Andy Warhol: Images of an image.

Uncertainty:

• Every piece of art can be look at and portrayed differently to people.

Andy Warhol:

• He never wanted to be a artist, he always wanted to be a dancer (tap)

The videos explain the text more in depth. it showed how many ideas of art changed throughout the years and also has changed peoples perspective.

I think the films where quite good. I more liked the Andy Warhol video better because it was more interesting to me 

Module 11

 From the list i choose the videos Matisse and Picasso and also the impact of cubism.I didn't have an exact reason on why i picked both of these films, i just decided to pick them because they were in the beginning and ending of the list

The text relates to both of the videos. In the book it explains art and the emotion behind it. The textbook even showed some pictures and topics related to the videos.

I think that for both videos they explain it quite well. They really break down both of the videos to give a better understanding of them. And they also touch on the personal lifes of the people in the videos.

Module 10 Mask

The photos below is what I used as my inspirations.

1.

For all theses pictures i was always interested in these type of styles. I find them to be very artistic and outspoken. With all three masks they have a detailed pattern to them that make them standout. The first photo shows that a lot of work and precise movements were put into creating it. Also with all the mask it demonstrate a sense of culture, when looking at each one you can tell that each one is from a different part of the world. 

2. The one masks that i took interest in was kitsune mask that is originally from japan. It a mask of a fox for japan it has the meaning of religion and traditions. And can also represent plenty of things. Another mask is one called "day of the dead" mask. It's a mask used on a Mexican holiday to bring family and friends together to pray for the love they have lost. And for the

I tired to use a element from each of my inspirations. When finding out that i have to create a design for a mask i was quite excited. It was something that i  haven't had the chance of doing and it was a new experience. I tired to make it my own by making a twist of the design into my own style.

Module 10 Video review

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.

I chose this video because i knew in the African culture they used a lot of masks for their art. I i thought it can give me an idea of what i would like to do. The other video that i had picked was Chinese Art. I picked this one because you would always hear about people having an interest in Chinese dishes.

African Art

• They had expressed their cultural in the way they dressed and hairstyles 
• Many of the statues and masks that are now in museums were used in ceremonies
• Many had considered African art as childlike 

Chinese Art 

• They used unique shapes and patterns for their art 
• They also used a lot of animals in their art which represented many different things.

  2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

The African art video relates to the text because it both talks about their used of masks, sculptures and clothing and music that was in the culture. The Chinese Art video also related to the text although the textbook gave off more information. 

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

I think both videos were great and they explained the work very well. I really like the video on African Art because of its culture and it explained the depth of it.

I chosen the videos called Velazquez and Albrecht Durer for my video review. I had pick these because those were names that i didn't recognized so i decided to pick those.

• He showed little interest in color
• For his work he used blurred lines instead of sharp lines
• He had one love and friend in his life

• His style had changed over the years
• Many different shapes were used to create his portraits
• He was married to a 15 year old

   The reading from the textbook relates to the videos. It was about portraits and different types of artworks.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

I thought the video were really good and to the point. It showed a lot of information about the artist that i found quite interesting. 

module 9

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing?

      It was quite interesting since I've never used a human body part for drawing. I also found it quite difficult             because i never knew my hand had so much characteristics to it.  

2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why? 

     I used a pencil for my drawing because i found that i can work better with it. I didn't use charcoal because i        thought it would become to messy to work with.

3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand?

    it was something that i never thought i would be doing. It was more like trail and error 

     

4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies?

    Yes. i think they are successful 

5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork in the future?

    No. i feel more comfortable using my right hand to create my drawings.

Module 8

The video that i selected was The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and the Human Figure. I choose this video because i have always had an interest in Greek culture.

  How Art Made The World 1

• They used human body in the most interesting ways 
• Greeks believed that their gods were in human bodies forms
• Some forms are more important to the human brain while others are completely ignored

Greeks tried to use emotion in their art

They portray the human in a more realistic form.

Greeks didn't pay much attention to painting.

Greeks started thinking into the realm of depicting realism and shift away from Egyptian-like body forms

I would say that the videos relate to the text because it also talks about the ancient art and the ideas of all the human body. These videos gave more information needed to really understand and appreciate ancient art. These videos explained how over the century the outlook of Greek art has changed and developed.

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

I thought the videos were very well explained. It helped me understand the Greeks take on art and how they decided to change their outlook of art. They thought of the human body as a beautiful thing and it was fascinating to learn why they thought this way.

I think both videos relate to the readings in the text. They both visit the element of architecture and how they also relate to art, It also stresses the importance of art.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?

I think the videos were very detailed and easy to understand. It showed how things were changed and developed over the years. The videos help me understand everything that is put into architecture work.

4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?

I had chosen the videos Architecture: the science of design and Frank Gehry: Architecture as art, because of what i thought the videos where going to be about. With the title the science of art i thought the video was going to be about technology. I am very interested in how technology can become advanced in many ways. And when applied to art i wanted to see what direction they would take.

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

  For each video the way the glass and sculpture was made was very interesting. I found that the process of creating both the sculpture and the glass sculpture were very detailed. With making the stone sculpture there was a huge amount of time that was put into making it. I found that the video for the glass was the most interesting. I knew about the process of making glass and how it was form with using extreme heat. Something that i didn't know is that it was made from sand. 

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

Both videos relate to the reading in the text. It relates because it also shows the step process just like in the video which is also very detailed.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics: Sculpture, Installation, and Craft?

I personally liked the films because it showed in detailed on how each thing was created. I feel like in the films it showed the importance of the artwork and what it is used for.

2. When looking at Project #1: (Elements and Principles), did you agree with the element or principle the artist listed with the images? Did you see other elements and principles in the images?

    For Lauren blog i agreed with what she presented for her project . All the pictures she took came out great and i realized how it can relate to the elements and principles that was provided . I especially like her picture she had for the proportion elements. 

3. When looking at Project #2: Where there any images in the Peer Blogs the same as your own? If yes, what were they? Where the reasons the image was selected the same or different as your own?

For both projects the photos that were selected were very unique. From my project, Daundre and i have one photo common,that photo would be C-Word by Anne Muntges. I choose this photo because of the spontaneous color the artwork shows.And i found the artwork to be very interesting with the pattern in the back. I believe that Daundre thought the same thing about the artwork.

4. Where there any images that your Peers selected that pique your interest now? If yes, what are they and what is your connection with them? What would you want to know about them?

For daundre's blog the photo that interest me the most was the artwork that he used for his line element. I don't know exactly what the name of the artwork is but it grabbed my attention. Also for Lauren's blog a piece of art that was interesting to me was the sculpture Under a Cloud by Jeanne Silverthorne. To me it expresses all the thoughts and worries somebody can have. I can relate to that sculpture because during my college experience i have a lot of worries and responsibility. For both these artworks i would like to know what was the creating process like for the artist.   

5. What do you think about the process of reading your peers reflection? Do you find this to be a valuable in your learning?

Yes, i find it to be valuable because people can have similar views on a topic or can intercept it into something different.

I find the comments left by my classmates to be very encouraging and that some of us have a similar interest.  

Married to the Music

1.Discuss what you thought about creating your logo.

I thought it was a really creativity project. It was the first time for me doing a project like this, and i was brainstorming on what i should make my logo on. I decided to make my logo on something that i infuse my day with all the time which is music. It plays a big part in my life since i love dance and it is what inspires me.  

 2. Describe the process: creative thinking skills and ideas you used in the logo creation.

Since it was about music i decided to incorporate musical notes into my drawing. Also since my idea was the thought of being married to the music, i put in a marriage ring to show what what i was trying to say.

 3.What was the most important discovery you made in the creation of your logo? 

That every logo is a way to express yourself. You can make it to represent anything that you are passionate about. 

 4.What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos, powerpoint, and reading material  for this project? What is your opinion of the videos?

That a lot of thought is put in when making a logo or rebuilding a brand name. It comes down to what can be done and what the customers may want. I've never notice how much work is put into a production. 

Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?

There are two different artworks that have interest me the most. Those two artworks would be Blue Zig- Zag by Kate Doody and C-Word by Anne Muntges. I choose these two because of how detailed they were. In the picture it stands out to me because it is different from what a regular artist would do, using ceramic in their artwork.

Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?

Shadow road by Gary Kyte and Untitled (study for pioneer evening) by Charles E. Burchfield. I think that i have a connection with these pictures because they show strong emotions. With myself it can show all the emotions that i can express.

Which artworks would I like to know more about? Why?

Boy with dog by Agnes Robertson and the cardinal by Faith Howard Davis are the artwork that i would like to learn more about. He seems like these paintings have a more deep meaning to it or that it can symbolize something else.

1. Discuss what you thought about creating the Value Scale and Color Wheel. 

Creating both projects was a fun activity that i enjoyed doing. With the Value Scale it took some time to create each shade to look different. There was trial and error when it came to making this scale but i enjoyed it. I also really enjoyed the Color Wheel. Painting was always a fun activity to do since i was young and it was interesting to me to see the results i get when mixing colors.

2. Which media did you enjoy working with the best and why?

I enjoyed painting the most out of the project,  because it was something new and also something that i haven't done in a while. 

3. What was the most important discovery in the creation of these studies?

Something that i discovered was the fact that red, yellow and blue are not true primary colors. That the "real" primary colors are Cyan, Magenta and yellow. And with these colors i was able to make the same colors i would have done with the original primary colors. 

4. What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos for this project? What is your opinion of the videos?

From both videos I've notice how others really care for art. In the value video, they show a precise way of getting the rights shades to create a value picture. By making lines you would be able to make your diagram precise and organized to create the effect.

Elements and Principles

In the process of creating my slideshow i thought to myself what would be the best things to use. I started using things around my suite that i would commonly use everyday. Things like a fan, water bottles and all sorts of things. I really like how this assignment allowed me to use things that i was interested in, instead of giving us set objects that we must have. I found the elements and Principles of Art to be very interesting and I've came to notice that these things are stuff that we use daily. Without even knowing objects near to you or in your room are objects of art. To myself i believe its how you portray the object it can become a work of art.

Color

1. Describe Color and it's effects on emotions. Use the appropriate vocabulary of color in your posting.

When using color in a painting it's more than just showing the difference in each object, but to show the emotion that comes with it. The video “Color” it states how the artist uses color to show her emotion while painting. By using bold colors it can represent somebodies deep emotions whether it be anger or something else. Color has 3 different distinct properties which are hue, intensity, and value. The three of these are used throughout painting and is each represented by something. Hue represents the regular colors like green, blue and red. Intensity would symbolize strength and purity. And the last, value is used for an addition to show intense emotion. She uses color to manipulate her painting into a piece of work that she can be proud of.

2. What is a theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues/fascinates you? Why? The one that fascinates me the most is emotion. I find it amazing that emotions can be expressed with colors. With every feeling there would be a color that we think of first that can represent it. When u think of anger the first color that would come to mind is red. Or when thinking of other things like the sky or darkness, the colors that would come to mind are blue and black.   

3. In the Color video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and it's effects on emotions?

In the color video the topic i was most interested in was how they made their colors. It was said that they would use things like red beetles for a rich red color. And a color that used for purity was a bright blue that was made out of a valuable stone called lapis lazuli. The way colors were made was very unique and creative. Just cause it was easy to make doesn’t mean that it wasn’t expensive. They had to be very careful when it came to using colors that were very unique.  

4. In the Feelings video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and it's effects on emotions?

In the feelings video the thing that i was fascinated the most about was the amount of detail that was in the painting. With looking at the painting i was able to see the emotions on the peoples face and the fine detail that was put into the work. Using certain paint colors emphasized the art and made it looked great.

Module 2

1. For each video and article list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

What i’ve learned from the article is that are mind has a way of identifying art. When Art has hidden pictures within it are brain will act quick and detect it. Also from the video i’ve learned that art is what you make it. They believe that art is not necessarily beauty. That there are plenty forms of art and not just one thing can be defined as such.

2. Which philosopher's theory on aesthetics do you feel is most important? Be sure to mention the philosopher's name, era (time in history), and contribution to the aesthetic theory in your response.

A philosopher that i feel holds an important theory is Plato. He believes in the pure idea of beauty and what  should really be categorized as art. Plato from the 4th century B.C also held a low opinion of poets and artist. He thought low of poets because he believed that they spoke of things they can’t truly know about. They would get the understanding of a topic, but would not know the true meaning behind it or how it came about. Plato states, “what is beautiful in itself is not this object or that one, but that which conveys their own nature”. I would explain this as beauty comes from within. From the idea of the object until it was created. Just how some may say childbirth is a beautiful sight, i believe that it can compare to that.

3. What do you think about Changeux and Ramachandran scientific view of aesthetics and art? What was the most interesting fact you discovered from each speaker's lecture?

I think that the way he views art is very interesting. He explains art through the discovery of the human brain and body, and how everything comes together. He mentions that the human brain takes at least 15 years to fully develop. I also likes how he goes on to explain how to brain processes visual art. From how our brain is capable to detecting a hidden picture within a picture.

With Ramachandran speech he states that the place where art and science meet is the human brain. I find it  interesting how art can be looked at through every aspect. Whether is scientific or historical, art has a very wide range. In his presentation he shows the different ways of beauty by taking art and distorting it.

4. How do the videos and article relate to the readings in the text? The articles and video all relate to the text because it talks about the many philosophers we may know and the views of aesthetics of art. The text would show a summary of what topics are spoken but with the videos it  really show a great explanation of what is really going on.

5. What is your opinion of the films and article? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics in your reading in the text? The films gave me a better understanding of what aesthetics really is. Also it allowed me to know more about the philosophers i've heard so much about and to understand their views on art
